The proceeding book discusses Indonesia’s Islamic economy, financial development, and future, especially during Prabowo’s government. It highlights how Islamic finance has grown into a strong sector, providing an alternative to conventional monetary systems. The content is based on an international seminar that gathered experts and policymakers to share ideas and strategies for improving the Islamic economy in Indonesia. The seminar underlines the rapid growth of the Islamic economy, with Indonesia becoming a global leader in halal tourism, halal food, and Muslim fashion. The rise of Islamic financial products such as sharia bonds and insurance has played a key role in this progress.
Government programs have also supported the growth of the Islamic economy, particularly with the creation of the National Committee for Sharia Economics and Finance (KNEKS) and the Regional Committee for Sharia Economics and Finance (KDEKS). The focus has broadened from finance to include the halal industry, social funds like zakat and waqf, and the development of sharia entrepreneurs. By 2030, the Islamic economy is expected to contribute around 10 billion USD to Indonesia’s GDP. However, challenges remain, such as low public awareness, weak regulations, and insufficient incentives for halal industry players.
The seminar suggests several strategies to overcome these issues, including integrating the Islamic economy into national development plans, improving digitalization, and increasing public education. Collaboration among the government, academic institutions, and the private sector ensures sustainable growth in Indonesia’s Islamic economy and finance sector.
